10 Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered Facts You Might Have Missed
Feb 17, 2025
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered brings Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness up to modern standards—not just with updated graphics, but also with quality-of-life improvements and restored content.
That’s right—Lara Croft can now use her signature dual pistols in Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. However, before she can use them, she must first collect a pair of Vector R-35s.
But that’s just the beginning. From the restored Parisian Back Streets training area to Kurtis finally getting to unleash his Irenwaepn Chirugai in-game, there’s plenty to discover.
Check out our article, Restoring Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness Remastered, for all the details!
Just like in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, players can choose between Tank and Modern Controls for all three games. We recommend using Modern Controls (preferably with a gamepad) for The Angel of Darkness to get the best experience, as the game was originally designed with the PlayStation 2’s analogue sticks in mind.
The Modern Controls in The Angel of Darkness may take some time to adjust to, especially for players used to tank controls, but with a little practice, they’ll feel natural.
A key detail to remember for Modern Controls is that 'action' is split between two buttons: the standard 'action' button is used for picking up and moving objects, while the 'trigger' button is used for grabbing ledges and shooting.
We recommend setting 'Duck Mode' to 'Hold' for better control.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Chronicles have been updated with a useful Slide to Run move, so Lara no longer stumbles after sliding down a slope. Additional moves have been added for a smoother gameplay experience.
Photo Mode has become a must-have feature in modern gaming, but for Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, the fun doesn’t stop there. The developers at Saber and Aspyr have introduced an exciting new tool within Photo Mode: The Flyby Camera Maker. Fans can now use this tool to create stunning cinematic shots by mapping out the camera movement in creative ways.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Chronicles now feature Graphics Options: Retro FPS and Pickup Highlight. Disabling the Retro FPS runs the retro graphics at 60 frames per second instead of the old school 30. The Pickup Highlight setting highlights items Lara can pick up, making them easier to spot.
Other features make a return such as Enemy Health Bar toggle, Action Indicators and the introduction of the Ammo Counter.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness got a stylish redesign of the loading screens. Tomb Raider: Chronicles uses frames from the game's FMVs as loading screens. However, the Remastered version modernized them by reimagining them with inspiration from official Core Design renders.
To preserve the original atmosphere and aesthetics of The Angel of Darkness, its Remastered loading screens have been carefully recreated with some creative flourishes to better reflect the mood of each level.
The popular feature from Tomb Raider I-III Remastered returns, allowing Lara to wear outfits from her new adventures.
In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Chronicles, players can equip her signature round glasses right from the start. In Angel of Darkness, Lara’s stylish new shades are also an option from the beginning.
Additional outfits become available upon completing the games.
There are some extra rewards for collecting secrets, so be sure to explore the levels.
New Game+ also returns for all three games, bringing some interesting changes—like Von Croy skipping the tutorial during the Angkor Wat level. Plenty of new challenges make Lara’s journey even tougher. In Angel of Darkness, the save game menu is replaced by a GPS-based save system. There are 48 save points, so use them wisely. Angel of Darkness also introduces additional New Game+ challenges.
Players can once again immerse themselves in the challenge of unlocking over 150 achievements.
